The series that nobody asked for, but you’re all getting. I wanted to do a slight recap of my time speaking at various Future Of Leadership conferences over the next couple of weeks. First up, Sydney and some self reflection featuring gratitude and some mild criticism.

Well I promised a few words on my time attempting my first ultra marathon over the weekend so I thought it would serve me best to do a bit of a play by play from start to finish.

If you’ve been following what I’ve been up to over the past few months, you’ll notice that amongst the moments of speaking, travelling and film there’s been one pretty solid constant which has been my running. This leads to a very important question… Am I a runner now?

The month of July is set to be one of the most important in my life so far. I know that sounds dramatic and to be fair there are probably other times in my life (being born, finishing school, getting married etc) that are more significant. However I feel like a lot has been leading up to some things that I have coming over the next few weeks.

And progress… I’ve been wanting to write something about my absence for a while which has been more difficult that I thought it would. I could cover myself with a number of excuses (which I promise are valid) but to me the more interesting thing is why I’ve had this drop off. Good news is we’re back now!

Is consistency the ability to show up focus of each individual step regardless of its quality? Or is it the ability to forget about the end goal in service of making progress at a regular rate?

Publishing this piece here is probably well overdue but I wanted to put something on the Journal that describes my feelings towards sharks and how I’ve personally come to terms with what happened, along with my relationship with them today.

Remember how you felt at the start of the year? When you had all of your plans, your goals and your excitement that this would be the biggest year yet? Or do you need a recalibration like I’ve just done?

Life has been pretty overwhelming lately and it feels strange to say that it’s working out nearly exactly how I’d planned. I think I’ll start doing a weekly roundup of what I’ve been up to, not necessarily because I want to brag or even think people are interested but I do want to make sure I’m documenting most things so I have an opportunity to reflect and write a few words about them.

I find it interesting to speak on different podcasts because everyone always has a slightly different approach and at times I can find it a challenge to adjust to whatever theme is in front of me. That’s why I wanted to post this podcast that I did recently with Brendan Rogers on his channel, The Culture of Leadership.

With a moment to reflect on things that have been happening outside of the release of Attacking Life, I wanted to write a piece on some speaking I did at a conference in Kiama recently. There’s also details of how you can watch me speak for free if you’re wondering what that whole side of my life looks like.

The past week has been incredible. I’ve found it difficult to put into words exactly how I’m feeling but if you can picture someone who’s floating on a cloud, filled with both gratitude and relief, that’s me.

Despite my thoughts and reservations, I’m happy to be sitting here with a moment to reflect on what this has all meant to me.

I recently got Mum to write a few words as a bit of a reflection of her experience which is a perspective that I think a lot of people will find both emotional and insightful. I am certainly glad she did everything she could to be there and support me through my toughest days and always hope to do her proud with everything I set out to achieve in life. Thanks for everything Mum.

March 9th is the day this three year project comes to a head! I spoke on my last post of the conflicting feelings I’ve had on the impending release of Attacking Life but since announcing our partnership with Stan and now the release of the official trailer I have decided that I simply want to be in the moment and experience things as they come.

Yesterday we made a pretty big announcement about the film that feels like a huge leap towards getting this whole project closer to the finish line. As of the 9th of March, Attacking Life will be premiered to the world on Stan Australia.

The past 2 weeks have definitely been a whirlwind to say the least. I’m currently writing this as I sit on a plane, returning home from the US and after having a chance to reflect on my time I thought it would be worth sharing a bit about my trip here. For consistency, I’ll include my highlights, the tried and tested ‘Sweet, Sour, Banana’ and some photos that I took along the way.

A trip to Kansas raises a lot of eyebrows when you tell them that’s where you’re going when you travel to America, in fact it raises a lot of eyebrows when you tell people that live in Kansas that you’re there from Australia. So with this in mind, the way your expectations are formed and how they’re met and eventually exceeded comes as a massive surprise. So I wanted to do a summary of my trip and show what the experience looked like through the lens of a camera. Lawrence isn’t a place I’ll be forgetting anytime soon.

Being a sports fan, it’s easy to put the success of a team down to the players on the roster but when you start to look a little deeper you realise there is far more to it than meets the eye. We’ve travelled to Lawrence, Kansas to document these characters behind the scenes and had an idea of what we were getting into but after spending some time with the Glen’s of the world I’ve realised that the result on the scoreboard reflects more than just the number of baskets counted.

Day 1 in LA. An unbelievably tired trio takes a tour around the entire city. When I say the entire city, I really mean it. Along the way we met with Jesus, owner of The Wood Class who showed us the beauty that lies in the parts of LA that people often won’t experience. His outlook on life and his way of giving is something to be admired, especially when contrasted to the environment the surrounds him.
