Excuses
And progress…
It feels strange writing this after taking such a large amount of time off from publishing anything on the blog but I also think that helps with what I’d like to write. Firstly, I’ve been lazy on the writing front. I’ve had a note on my to do list for the past 6 weeks to publish an article but each time I set aside time to do it I felt like the moment didn’t feel right and I kept putting it off. One of my goals this year has been to be consistent with my writing and if you’ll remember, the very last post I wrote was about consistency, with the focus being on following through with the promise to myself rather than obsessing over quality.
This is advice to myself that I have clearly not taken onboard but that’s what makes this interesting. Sure, there have been many excuses. I’ve been busy, I’ve been overseas, I’ve been training for this 50km, I’ve been lacking time. Focussing on the excuses takes away from the reason I set this as a goal for myself in the first place and that’s something I want to get back to. Because to me the reason the writing has dropped off is because everything I’ve been working on so hard has been progressing and gathering momentum in such a positive way. This is a good thing! But a common byproduct of experiencing good times is you tend to move away from the things that you lent on when you needed the help, advice and inspiration.
Despite my current progress, I still need all of those things and while I don’t have any profound thoughts on this entire situation I think by posting this It will bring be back to where I need to be with this goal of mine, but with slightly altered expectations.
Going forward I will adjust my output to one piece of writing per week which to me seems much more achievable. Having something achievable here is important but it will also give me plenty of time to put something thoughtful, meaningful and purposeful together that can any updates that are happening in my world.
And on the note of those updates, there have been a ton that’s happened since I last posted but I’ll share my top 3 moments today:
Presenting at Hamer Hall: I was lucky enough to speak to a large group of graduates from the Holmsglen Institute which was an amazing opportunity but the thing that stood out to me with this one was the venue. Melbourne’s Hamer Hall is an absolutely gorgeous venue that’s packed with history and was the perfect setting for this ceremony. I’m usually overwhelmingly nervous when it comes to presentations like this but I was so taken away by the beauty of the place that I barely noticed the nerves, I’d love to present here again one day
European Honeymoon: This trip has been a long time coming but we had the most incredible time over the past month touring around Europe. Two things to note with this trip; 1 being that train travel is far better than air travel in many cases, I have developed a love for rail. 2 being that everyone who’s got the time should absolutely visit Slovenia. I could write forever about its beauty but trust me when I say it’s worth booking a ticket asap!
International Presentation: One of my goals for the year was to present internationally and when an opportunity popped up that allowed me to organise a night in Newquay, England, I was all over it. It’s one thing to be able to tick off the goal but the presentation itself was amazing, such a great group of people that I was so lucky to get the chance to talk to.
That’s it for today’s update. I have heaps more I want to share but if I gave it all away now there’s a good chance I’d fall into another writing slump next week.
