Speaking
After how hectic the past few weeks have been, I’ve finally got a moment today to reflect on something that I had a whole lot of fun with just before things got crazy with Attacking Life. I was recently invited to speak at a local conference for Cloudbreak Wealth who is based in Kiama and was asked so share my story of resilience. This is a common presentation that I do all the time but I always try my best to add little bits here and there to relate to the audience which can be difficult when your audience consists of everything from investors, to western clothing and whip manufacturers.
As I was trying to think of a common theme something jumped out at me that I really wanted to share with everyone and it came from a simple thought based around us all being humans, navigating our way through the world with some sort of purpose.
Purpose itself can seem complicated to a lot of people, some have theirs completely nailed down, others have a vague idea and then there’s people who aren’t exactly sure (but it’s in there somewhere). We always talk about how purpose fuels progress, but I think there’s so much value in a consistent connection to your purpose to help drive those little steps of progress each day. It all starts with self awareness. Where are we going and why?
Whether it’s to be fit and run a marathon, become a better parent or operate a successful business if we consistently ask ourselves why we’re reaching for those goals, it has the ability clear our mind from doubt and create confidence in each step.
This is only little but next time you’re waking up at 5am to go for a run, deciding to knock off work a little early to spend some time at home or walking into a big work meeting, stop and ask yourself ‘why?’. Connect with your purpose, know why you’re doing what you’re doing and have confidence that it’s the right thing to do for you to get to where you want to go.
Everyone in that conference has a purpose, and whilst their purposes can be different, I was able to relate to a highly diverse room and had a lot of positive feedback on the simplicity of this thought. We all have the answers, sometimes we just need to view things through an alternate lens for us to approach our own situations differently.
This is only a small part of speaking but something I love to be able to do when it comes to getting on stage and making a shark attack relatable. If you’re interested and would like to see me speak live, I’m currently booked in to present at Surf Life Festival Gerringong on April 1st at 11am. For more details on that you can check out their website, please note that the speaking portion of this is free and anyone is welcome. See you there!
