Musings 1.12
I could sit here all day and type out the millions of ways that New Zealand is beautiful but that would be the equivalent of copying and pasting clichés that you don’t really need to hear, just take my word for it. This trip is one that came up out of stubbornness and I’m glad everything worked out the way it did.
I had the potential to put myself in a good position for some speaking work in Auckland and after I was told that I might have to take care of things on Zoom due to the body of water that sits between Australia and New Zealand I started looking for other options. I’ve written about my ‘in-person only preference’ when it comes to speaking so it made sense to see if I could find the slightest reason to make the trip over.
This wasn’t that difficult to do.
So, a catch up with friends, a meeting on the side and an opportunity to enjoy a few days taking in the scenery was the plan which coincidentally fits in with my first quote that came up over coffee with good mate, Bradley Dryburgh.
“Don’t get caught up so much with everything that you forget to live”
Ever since my experience with the shark attack, I’ve always tried my best to prioritise ‘living’ and while it hasn’t always been possible, I’m always thinking about what the balance between everything looks like. I know there’s going to be a lot of hard work going into the things that I want to achieve over the next few years so I’m happy to take the time to enjoy the little things while I have them.
‘Living’ isn’t always a holiday. It’s just a conscious decision to lower the guards of seriousness, take a step back and if possible, make memories.
I think we only just scratched the surface of what’s on offer in New Zealand but I can confirm that memories were made.
“It all starts with your thoughts. Because your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, and your actions become your destiny”
“Arrogance will only get you so far. To learn you need humility. The most dangerous person in the room is often the most humble”
